About Nutrition and Weight Loss Center of Ocean
Live a healthy lifestyle with the help of Nutrition and Weight Loss Center of Ocean in Oakhurst, New Jersey. Our focus is helping clients improve their lives. The Nutrition and Weight Loss Center of Ocean was opened in October of 2008 and has been growing ever since.
The nutrition consultation we provide is just the start of what we offer. We teach patients how to live a healthier lifestyle rather than just giving them a diet to follow. As a result, you can lose weight and reach all of your health goals. Our approach is individualized as we recognize that no single plan works for everyone and each of us is unique.

Our Mission & Values
Our mission is to serve others to help them realize their fullest health potential without the use of unnecessary medications or surgeries. We practice Functional Medicine, a biology-based approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of one’s disease. It views the body as one integrated system and not a collection of independent organs. It treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of disease. Functional Medicine also looks at the interactions among genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. At the Nutrition and Weight Loss Center of Ocean, we believe that every day is an opportunity to live life a little healthier than the day before. We provide our clients with the tools and support needed on their wellness journey so that they, in turn may educate their family, friends and community.

Dr. Talerico’s Story And Credentials
I am Dr.Tricia Talerico and have been a Doctor of Chiropractic for the past 37 years. I began my career as a chiropractor after graduating from New York Chiropractic College in Old Brookville, N.Y. in 1986. As my practice grew, I realized that many of my patients had complicated health issues and were interested in learning more ways to improve their health, longevity and body composition. So, with the help, support and encouragement of my amazing family and mentor, Dr. Tom Bilella, I enrolled in the Masters of Clinical Nutrition program at the University of Bridgeport. I was excited to open my nutrition practice in 2008 after graduating and I have enjoyed the diversity of practicing as a Chiropractor and Nutritionist since then.
It has been an honor to be entrusted with the health of my patients and family, both as a chiropractor and nutritionist. I continue to go to workshops and seminars so that I am better able to help my clients improve their health, quality of life and longevity. I believe that symptoms are messages from the body that we need to acknowledge and dissect to allow us to adjust our behaviors and lifestyle. I am here to serve you, support you and help you to understand and believe that you can improve your health through natural medicine.
Karen McMahon – Administrative Assistant
Karen has been with Dr. Trish in the chiropractic/nutrition field for the past 15 years as an administrative assistant/office manager. Karen is originally from New York where she began her professional career in customer service and then advanced to the technology field as a programmer for NY Telephone (Verizon). However, she spent her childhood summers at the shore and loved it so much that she moved to Ocean, NJ where she met her husband and raised her children. She now works closely with clients at NWLC and the Chiropractic office.
Liz Catena – Administrative Assistant
Originally from New York, Liz Catena moved to New Jersey to attend Monmouth University—and never looked back. After graduating, she began her career working alongside Dr. Trish, quickly becoming a valued part of the team.
In 2010, Liz stepped away from the professional world to dedicate time to raising her children. Now, after a 15-year break, she’s excited to return to the NWLC and Chiropractic Office, once again working with Dr. Trish and Karen in a supportive and familiar environment.
Liz brings warmth, experience, and a genuine passion for helping others to her role, ensuring every patient feels welcome and cared for from the moment they walk through the door.
Frequently Asked Questions
Learn How it Works!
Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications for weight loss?
No, I do not prescribe GLP-1 medications as I am not a medical doctor. I am a Chiropractor and Clinical Nutritionist. However, I do have several clients who currently use those medications and I design their programs to help maximize their results.
What is the difference between a Dietician and a Clinical Nutritionist?
A dietician, also known as a registered dietitian (RD)is a food and nutrition expert who provides guidance and counseling to help individuals achieve their health goals through nutrition. A clinical nutritionist, on the other hand, focuses on designing and implementing specific nutrition plans to improve or maintain patients’ health. Of course, there can be a lot of overlap here depending on the background and training of each provider. Their educational backgrounds may also be different. Each will be required to have a Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition or a related health field and can then specialize in a specific area of nutrition. In my case, I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, a Doctorate in Chiropractic and then a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition.
Do you provide meal plans for your clients?
I provide a generalized meal plan which includes all three macronutrients and then we can modify the meal plans for each individual, for example gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, etc.
Do you do bloodwork in your office?
I currently do not draw blood in my office. I do write LabCorp or Quest bloodwork scripts for my clients or review labs that they had done at their medical doctor’s office. I also have clients do some Functional Medicine testing to look at food sensitivities, gut inflammation, candida overgrowth and intestinal permeability or leaky gut.
If I am currently taking prescription medication, can you help me to get off those medications?
Since I am not the doctor who prescribed those medications, I cannot counsel you to discontinue them. My goal is to help you get to a state of health that allows your body to heal and then, with the help of your medical doctor, wean you off those medications if possible.
Do you prescribe hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for perimenopause or menopausal symptoms?
Since I am not a medical doctor, I cannot prescribe HRT for women. However, I strongly believe in women using bio-identical or body identical hormone replacement therapy to support our brain, bones and heart during our menopausal years. I have several natural products and protocols that can help manage symptoms with or without HRT. I also have several doctors to whom I can refer my clients for HRT.
